Wishful Thinking

Do you ever Find yourself staring into space when you’re at work, or driving. Only to come out of it thinking “Man I was just really out there for a minute.” Well that was all day for me today, I am definitely foggy, uncoordinated and a lack motivation. I even caught myself being lightheaded a couple times. I ate cottage cheese for breakfast and lunch today. I stopped at Starbucks on my way to work, Grande latte, whole milk, ristretto shots, 130 degrees. I ordered oatmeal too, no brown sugar, just a little bit of butter and milk. I’ll have to say I don’t like oatmeal that way as much as I like it with honey. It resembled oatmeal, but it kind of tasted like the paste that we used to use in grade school to make papier-mâché teddy bears, it made my sugar craving worse.

I was able to work through the day, no headache. Maybe a little one. But nothing that stopped me.

I did however get off work earlier. Which made me happier when I remembered. I said I was walking around with my head in the clouds, so yes I forgot I got off early. Sue me.

My father made me dinner tonight. Grilled to perfection chicken, amazing fresh green beans, and potatoes, with a touch of butter, sea salt and pepper. I ate some mustard too, Gulden’s ... it’s so damn great on everything. I could eat it constantly. Dinner was filling and so much goodnes, and after waiting about 30 min I did yoga. It was a 40 min vinyasa, with a very needed extended savasana. It was so well recieved that I almost fell asleep on my mat. Yoga can make everything a little easier, according to an article from Harvard Med https://www.health.harvard.edu/mind-and-mood/yoga-for-anxiety-and-depression by reducing perceived stress and anxiety, yoga appears to modulate stress response systems. This, in turn, decreases physiological arousal for example, reducing the heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and easing respiration. There is also evidence that yoga practices help increase heart rate variability, an indicator of the body's ability to respond to stress more flexibly.

A small but intriguing study done at the University of Utah provided some insight into the effect of yoga on the stress response by looking at the participants' responses to pain. The researchers noted that people who have a poorly regulated response to stress are also more sensitive to pain. Their subjects were 12 experienced yoga practitioners, 14 people with fibromyalgia (a condition many researchers consider a stress-related illness that is characterized by hypersensitivity to pain), and 16 healthy volunteers.

When the three groups were subjected to more or less painful thumbnail pressure, the participants with fibromyalgia as expected perceived pain at lower pressure levels compared with the other subjects. Functional MRIs showed they also had the greatest activity in areas of the brain associated with the pain response. In contrast, the yoga practitioners had the highest pain tolerance and lowest pain-related brain activity during the MRI. The study underscores the value of techniques, such as yoga, that can help a person regulate their stress and, therefore, pain responses.

So clearly I am responsible for the suffering. All of it. I am taking matters into my own hands, by choosing to fight the friendly fire with fire. Fire in the core, legs and arms. It helps with the slight depression I am going throug, which is nice.

I am off to bed, the dog has fallen asleep and it exhausts me to see her that way. So the yawns have kicked in and I look forward to sharing more amazing news tomorrow.
